How It Looked Before We Started Building This Garden September 2011. We are demonstrating how a rental property in East Bowral, NSW Australia, with a land size of somewhere between 1/10 and 1/16th of an acre around the house was transformed into a flourishing native and food garden producing 1.5 to 2 ton of living organic food per year and with all the excess given away for free, and there is plenty of it during harvest times. All of this has been done with very little money. The land was mostly all clay with rock and bulldozed work-site garbage underneath, with a struggling lawn that could not get properly established because there was no humus or topsoil due to it all being bulldozed away when the developers started building the new rural suburb of East Bowral back around 1999.
